UUP offers new scholarship for SUNY students

United University Professions (UUP), the nation’s largest higher education union, announces a new scholarship program for SUNY graduate students in addition to its annual scholarships for undergraduates.

The William Scheuerman Post Baccalaureate Scholarship is open to full-time graduate or professional SUNY students who exhibit dedication to the goals and ideals of the labor union movement. To qualify, students must be carrying a course load of at least nine credits, must have completed at least nine credits, and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 4.0. The $2,000 annual scholarship is named in honor of former UUP President William Scheuerman.

The UUP College Scholarship Fund continues the awarding of up to four scholarships to outstanding full-time undergraduate students enrolled at a SUNY state-operated campus. Applicants for the one-time only $2,000 scholarship must have a minimum grade point average of 3.75.

For both the undergraduate and graduate scholarships, students must also demonstrate personal as well as academic achievement along with a strong record of community service and a dedication to labor unions. Both scholarships are awarded on a one-time basis, but there is no limit on how many times a student may apply. The application deadline is March 1, 2011.
