Union delegates elect officers, Executive Board members Smith re-elected as UUP President
Representatives to United University Professions Spring 2011 Delegate Assembly have re-elected United University Professions President Phillip H. Smith to his second two-year term in office. Smith, of Manlius NY, is on leave from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, where he serves as a professor of cell and developmental biology. He was first elected statewide president on Feb. 9, 2008.
More than 300 delegates meeting in Albany on May 6 and 7 also re-elected two other statewide officers to two-year terms.
Eileen Landy of Clifton Park, who is on leave from SUNY College of Old Westbury as an associate professor of sociology, was re-elected to a sixth term as UUP’s statewide secretary. Edward Quinn of Miller Place, a staff associate in Theatre Arts at SUNY Stony Brook, was re-elected to a fifth term as UUP’s Membership Development Officer.
The following seven members were re-elected to two-year terms on UUP’s Executive Board:
Caroline Bailey of Liverpool, a senior staff assistant at SUNY’s College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse;
Edison Bond of Brooklyn, a senior staff associate at the SUNY Brooklyn Health Science Center;
David Curry of Plattsburgh, a professor of nursing at SUNY Plattsburgh and president of UUP’s Plattsburgh chapter;
Robert Reganse of Miller Place, an associate EOC professor at SUNY Farmingdale;
Laura Rhoads of Potsdam, a professor of cell physiology at SUNY Potsdam and president of that UUP chapter;
Mike Smiles of Huntington, a professor of biological technology at SUNY Farmingdale; and
Brian Tappen of Syracuse, a cardiology assistant at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.
Newly elected to a two-year term on UUP’s Executive Board was:
Jacqualine Berger of Snyder, a mentor at the Niagara Frontier Center of Empire State College and president of UUP’s Empire State College chapter.
