UUP elects officers, board members

Representatives to the United University Professions 2012 Spring Delegate Assembly have elected three officers and five Executive Board members. All officers and board members will serve two-year terms, effective June 1.

J. Philippe Abraham, director of career services at UAlbany , was elected to his first full term as UUP vice president for professionals. He was first elected as vice president for professionals September 24, 2011, to fill a vacancy. Rowena Blackman-Stroud, teaching hospital associate director of nuclear medicine at SUNY Downstate’s Medical Center in Brooklyn, was re-elected to a 10th term as UUP treasurer. Jamie Dangler, an associate professor of sociology and UUP chapter president at SUNY Cortland , was elected to her first term as UUP vice president for academics.

The following were re-elected to the union’s statewide Executive Board:

Ray Gleason , an engineering technician at SUNY Alfred;

Carolyn Kube, a clinical lab technician at Stony Brook University’s Health Sciences Center; and

Idalia Torres, a systems administrator at SUNY Fredonia

The following were elected to the board:

Frederick Kowal, a professor of social sciences at SUNY Cobleskill; and

Robert Rees, a distinguished service professor of electrical engineering at SUNY Alfred .

Kowal previously served on the board from 1997 to 1999 and was statewide membership development officer from 1999 to 2003. Rees served on the board from 2002 to 2007.

More than 300 UUP delegates voted in the elections conducted during the Spring Delegate Assembly, held in Albany April 20-21.
