UUP president to testify on proposed budget for SUNY

WHERE: Legislative Office Building, Hearing Room B, Albany

Phillip H. Smith, president of United University Professions (UUP), will testify about Gov. Cuomo’s Executive Budget for SUNY and its effects on student access and quality of education. Smith testifies at a public hearing conducted by the Legislature’s joint fiscal committee Monday, Feb. 11 at the Legislative Office Building in Albany. The hearing begins at 9:30 a.m.

Smith will also warn lawmakers about SUNY’s Resource Allocation Model that would decrease funding to 20 of SUNY’s state-operated campuses.

UUP is the nation's largest higher education union, with more than 37,000 academic and professional faculty and retirees. UUP members work at 29 New York state-operated campuses, including SUNY’s public teaching hospitals and health science centers in Brooklyn, Long Island and Syracuse. It is an affiliate of NYSUT, the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association, and the AFL-CIO.
