SUNY faculty union president to testify before state legislative budget panel

education budget

WHERE: Legislative Office Building, Hearing Room B, Albany

Frederick E. Kowal, Ph.D., president of United University Professions (UUP), will testify at a public hearing Thursday, February 6 at the Legislative Office Building in Albany regarding the impact of the proposed state budget on SUNY. Kowal will urge legislators to make a larger investment of state aid in SUNY and its three teaching hospitals, including SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

He will also call for creation of a state Public Higher Education Endowment to enable SUNY to hire more full-time faculty and professional staff and create a pathway to full time employment for adjunct and part-time employees.

UUP is the nation's largest higher education union, with more than 37,000 academic and professional faculty and retirees. UUP members work at 29 New York state-operated campuses, including SUNY’s public teaching hospitals and health science centers in Brooklyn, Long Island and Syracuse. It is an affiliate of NYSUT, the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association, and the AFL-CIO.
