UUP delegates return statewide leaders,
Executive Board members to office

Delegates to the United University Professions 2014 Spring Assembly re-elected three statewide officers and four Executive Board members, and elected one new board member. All officers and board members will serve two-year terms, beginning June 1.

Delegates re-elected the following statewide officers who ran without opposition:

  • J. Philippe Abraham of Slingerlands to his second term as UUP’s vice president for professionals. Abraham is director of career services at UAlbany. He was first elected in September 2011;
  • Rowena Blackman-Stroud of Brooklyn to her 11th term as UUP’s treasurer. She is the teaching hospital associate director of nuclear medicine at SUNY Downstate’s Health Science Center in Brooklyn; and
  • Jamie Dangler of Cortland to her second term as UUP’s vice president for academics. She is an associate professor of sociology at SUNY Cortland.

Delegates re-elected to UUP’s statewide Executive Board are:

  • Ray Gleason of Belfast, an engineering technician at SUNY Alfred, to a third term;
  • Carolyn Kube of Islip, a clinical lab technician at Stony Brook University’s Health Sciences Center, to a fourth term;
  • Idalia Torres of Dunkirk, a systems administrator at SUNY Fredonia, to a second term. She was first elected in September 2011; and,
  • Michael Lyon of Memphis, an associate professor of otolaryngology at SUNY Upstate Medical Center, to a first term. He was first elected in May 2013.

Ezra Zubrow of Eggertsville, a professor of anthropology at the University at Buffalo, also won election to the board. Zubrow previously served on the board from 2007 to 2009.

More than 300 UUP delegates participated in the elections conducted during the Delegate Assembly held in Albany May 2-3.
