UUP president to testify at TAP hearing

WHERE: Legislative Office Building, Hearing Room C, Albany

Frederick E. Kowal, president of United University Professions (UUP), will testify about at a public hearing studying the effectiveness of the New York State Tuition Assistance Program. Kowal testifies at a public hearing conducted by the state Assembly Standing Committee on Higher Education Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Legislative Office Building in Albany. The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m.

Kowal will call for an increase in the maximum TAP award to $6,500 and ask for support of a UUP proposal to refinance student debt.

UUP is the nation's largest higher education union, with more than 37,000 academic and professional faculty and retirees. UUP members work at 29 New York state-operated campuses, including SUNY’s public teaching hospitals and health science centers in Brooklyn, Long Island and Syracuse. It is an affiliate of NYSUT, the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association, and the AFL-CIO.
