UUP to unveil ambitious 2016 legislative action plan

On Tuesday, December 15, United University Professions – the nation’s largest higher education union – will unveil its 2016 legislative action plan at a news conference in Albany.

The news conference will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the LOB Press Room, Room 130, Legislative Office Building in Albany.

UUP President Frederick E. Kowal, Ph.D., will detail a series of innovative proposals that will benefit SUNY, its students and all New Yorkers. The union’s four proposals include a plan to recruit low-income and under-represented students to become teachers, and a plan to expand instruction in the burgeoning field of clean energy.

Kowal will be joined by Assemblyman Phil Steck (D-Colonie).

UUP is the nation's largest higher education union, with more than 37,000 academic and professional faculty and retirees. UUP members work at 29 New York state-operated campuses, including SUNY’s public teaching hospitals and health science centers in Brooklyn, Long Island and Syracuse. It is an affiliate of NYSUT, the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association, and the AFL-CIO.
