Statement from UUP President Frederick E. Kowal on the governor’s 2016 State of the State address
"There were many interesting proposals in the governor’s State of the State address and his Executive Budget, most notably his Clean Energy Workforce Opportunity Program proposal—which will benefit SUNY students, faculty and staff, and all New Yorkers.
"I am also encouraged by the governor’s paid family leave proposal.
"UUP looks forward to working with the governor and the Legislature on these and other issues of importance, which includes the passage of a maintenance of effort plan that will serve the long-term interests of public higher education in New York."
UUP is the nation's largest higher education union, with more than 42,000 academic and professional faculty and retirees. UUP members work at 29 New York state-operated campuses, including SUNY’s public teaching hospitals and health science centers in Brooklyn, Long Island and Syracuse. It is an affiliate of NYSUT, the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association, and the AFL-CIO.
