UUPers, NYSUT press legislative priorities

UUP Outreach Committee co-chair Tom Tucker from the University of Buffalo, second from right, points out the union’s legislative priorities during a May 12 meeting in Albany with Sen. Michael Razenhofer (R-Amherst). The advocacy effort was part of NYSUT’s Committee of 100. From left, Camille Spyra and Josephine Adamo from Buffalo State, and Al Ermanovics from UB also visited with the senator.

Nearly 30 UUP members fanned out across the Capitol to meet with dozens of state lawmakers to advance the union’s legislative agenda. The advocates sought support for the bill that would provide unemployment insurance benefits for part-time SUNY faculty. They also asked lawmakers to vote against a proposed Tier V retirement plan should it come up again. The UUPers also urged legislators to reject the A./S. 2020 bill that would allow UB to sell or lease its property without legislative oversight and implement differential tuition.
