More than 70 Long Island-based professionals laughed, listened and learned about workplace issues during UUP’s first regional conference for professionals.
Held in Huntington, L.I., the half-day Saturday seminar featured topics focusing on humor in the workplace, tips to get along with a demanding boss and how to go about getting a raise or a promotion.
The conference included a workshop on Humor in the Workplace which featured a hula hoop exercise. (inset)
UUP Vice President for Professionals John Marino, led the conference. He said the event was well-received by members, who said they will share what they learned with their chapter colleagues.
“By holding regional conferences for professionals, we are building on the `change the culture’ theme at SUNY,” Marino said. “More members will learn how to take advantage of provisions in the contract to help them build their careers and navigate through SUNY. We will continue educating our members and changing the culture.”
Holding regional conferences also save money; they drastically reduce travel costs and eliminate the need for overnight stays for members.
Marino said the next regional conference will be held for North Country professionals from Plattsburgh, Potsdam and Canton. It is tentatively set for Nov. 7.
