UUPers, NYSUT press state lawmakers

UUP Upstate Medical University Chapter President Carol Braund emphasizes the union’s legislative priorities in a meeting with Sen. David Valesky (D- Oneida), as fellow UUPer Dave Peckham, also from Upstate Medical, looks on. The March 16 meeting was part of NYSUT’s Committee of 100 that drew hundreds of education advocates to the Capitol.

Nearly three dozen UUP members visited with dozens of state lawmakers to advance the union’s legislative agenda. The advocates appealed to lawmakers to restore $152 million for SUNY targeted to be cut from the proposed state budget and the defeat of the proposed Public Higher Education Empowerment and Innovation Act. They also sought support to save NYSTI which faces the loss of its state funding.
