Getting out the vote

Stony Brook UUPers, from left, Sal Lentini, Charlie McAteer, Linda Sandberg and Nick Koridis, make calls as part of a recent phone bank to support the campaigns of U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop and Assemblyman Steve Englebright. The UUPers, along with member Diane Bello (not pictured), volunteered for the event, which reached out to registered voters represented by Bishop (D-Southampton) and Englebright (D-Setauket).

They're not the only members working to get out the vote for NYSUT-backed candidates before Election Day on Nov. 2.

UUPers from Upstate Medical University, Cortland, Morrisville and ESF chapters will be participating in NYSUT's Central Region phone bank this week in Syracuse.

Members from the Buffalo Center and Buffalo State chapters were set to make calls in an Oct. 26 phone bank at NYSUT's regional headquarters in western New York. New Paltz UUPers were involved in a phone bank on Oct. 19.

"I'd like to thank our members for setting aside time from their busy schedules to work the phone banks," said UUP President Phil Smith. "Every vote counts and it's of the utmost importance that candidates who support public higher education in New York are elected on Nov. 2. The future of SUNY may very well depend on it."
