Members Remember 9/11

Ten years after the terrorist attack that destroyed the World Trade Center, the stark images such as the scene captured in the above photo remain in our collective conscience. Four UUP members who worked in and around Ground Zero in the days immediately after the attack relate their experiences in the September issue of The Voice, UUP’s official publication.

Among them is David Scholl from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. Scholl also served in the New York National Guard and was deployed as a security guard at Ground Zero.

“The first night we did security near a residential area about four blocks away (from Ground Zero) and it was pitch black because there was no power in the city,” Scholl recalled. “You couldn’t see anything without a flashlight.”
