UUP resolution supporting WI workers
This resolution was adopted by the UUP Executive Board.
Resolution in Support of Wisconsin Public Employees
WHEREAS, United University Professions (UUP) recognizes the fiscal crisis in Wisconsin and all across the country; and
WHEREAS, there is a need for common sacrifice by all, including the business and corporate community; and
WHEREAS, the Wisconsin public employee unions have demonstrated a readiness to sit down and discuss pensions, salaries, health benefits; and
WHEREAS, Governor Walker’s effort is using this fiscal crisis to bust unions and destroy the right of workers to bargain collectively for terms and conditions of employment and to terminate their current contracts; and
WHEREAS, Governor Walker’s budget repair bill proposal, creates no appreciable savings; and
WHEREAS, public employees provide the vital services that make America happen; and
WHEREAS, we reject as unworthy of American public officials, and dishonorable in the extreme, the threat to use armed force via the National Guard against Americans who are exercising 1st amendment rights to peaceably assemble to air grievances; and
WHEREAS, we commend the fourteen Democratic state senators for taking a courageous stand to block a vote on Governor Walker’s outrageous attack on public employees and whereas these senators are doing their job and fulfilling their duty of serving their constituents, the people, and workers of the state of Wisconsin; therefore be it
RESOLVED, that UUP stands in solidarity with the public employees of the state of Wisconsin and sends a special message of affirmation and acclamation to our Wisconsin colleagues working in public higher education institutions.
