Dozens of UUP members from the New York City area marched down Manhattan’s 5th Avenue on Sept. 10, along with AFT President Randi Weingarten, fourth from left, and Downstate Medical Center Chapter President Rowena Blackman-Stroud, fourth from right, in the New York City Central Labor Council’s annual Labor Day parade.

The UUPers, from Downstate and several other chapters, stayed in step with unionists from NYSUT, the United Federation of Teachers and the Professional Staff Congress/City University of New York.

Statewide Vice President for Academics Fred Floss, Membership Development Officer Edward Quinn and Acting Vice President for Professionals Philippe Abraham were among the 50,000 or so at the event, as was NYSUT Executive Vice President Andrew Pallotta.

Nearly 120 unions and pro-organized labor groups took part in the parade, including the AFT, the New York State AFL-CIO, the Public Employees Federation, the Screen Actors Guild, United Auto Workers, the American Postal Workers Union and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
