Union members plan Jan. 8 rally at Capital

uupdate 12-13-12

UUP members are expected to turn out in big numbers for a rally in Albany Jan. 8 to support SUNY public hospitals and health science centers.

UUP members from SUNY’s three hospitals in Brooklyn, Stony Brook and Syracuse and its medical school in Buffalo will join members from other chapters to call for increased financial support for the University’s hospitals and medical schools.

The state AFL-CIO, CSEA and PEF members will also join the rally at the state Capitol from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at the Well of the Legislative Office Building.

A coalition representing Central Brooklyn’s faith-based, labor and community leaders will also travel to Albany to call for the protection of critical health care services and jobs at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, where more than 400 UUP members have been told that their jobs are being eliminated, and more job cuts are anticipated.

Before the rally, union members will meet with state legislators to try to generate support for SUNY’s hospitals and its academic campuses.

UUP members are welcomed to attend and can sign up here.

UUP is coordinating bus transportation with chapters. Please check with your chapter office for details.
