CFHE National Gathering coming to Albany

Register now for the Campaign for the Future of Higher Education’s Seventh National Gathering in Albany.

The conference, “Building Alliances for Access, Equity and Quality,” will be held May 16-18 at The Desmond in Albany. UUP will host the symposium.

The event will focus on effective ways to create coalitions with community, civil rights and student groups, and other organized diverse higher ed organizations. Jobs with Justice Executive Director Sarita Gupta will deliver the keynote speech May 17.

There will be panel discussions on barriers to higher ed access and educational quality, student debt, community involvement, coalition building, and creating a common agenda to further shared goals.

The conference opens with a May 16 panel discussion featuring members of the SUNY Downstate Coalition of Faith, Labor and Community Leaders. Coalition members will speak about their continuing fight to save health care services and jobs at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn.

Other groups set to take part in conference panels include the United States Student Association, United We Dream, Higher Ed Not Debt, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Also, the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, the League of United Latin American Citizens, and the New York Public Interest Research Group.
