Advisory committee focuses on librarians

uupdate 7-25-14

Appendix A-48 Advisory Committee Chair Jason Torre of Stony Brook discusses challenges UUP-represented librarians face at a July 25 meeting, as committee member Daniel Harms of Cortland listens.

UUP Vice President for Academics Jamie Dangler participated in a discussion on recommendations the panel is considering to improve compensation and working conditions for SUNY librarians. Salary inequities is one of a number of issues the panel is studying.

The committee is tabulating and analyzing the results of its spring online Librarian Equity Survey about “work-life conditions” for UUP member librarians. Members plan to use the survey results to finalize recommendations for union leaders, who will discuss the findings with SUNY and the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations, a process laid out in UUP’s contract with the state.

Also in attendance were committee members Daniel Kinney of Stony Brook, April Davies of Cobleskill, Valerie Mittenberg of New Paltz and John Schumacher of System Administration.
