Gleason named acting MDO

uupdate 12-16-14

Longtime Alfred Chapter member Ray Gleason has been appointed as the union’s acting Membership Development Officer.

Gleason, who has served on UUP’s Executive Board since 2010, was appointed Dec. 12. He will serve until Jan. 25, 2015, when the union holds an election to fill the unexpired term of former MDO Edison Bond Jr. The vote will be held at the 2015 Winter Delegate Assembly in Albany.

Gleason comes from a strong union family; his father was a member of the Teamsters and CSEA. Gleason himself was a member of the AFL-CIO before he became a UUP member.

“I am a strong unionist today because of my personal experiences and my study of the history of labor,” said Gleason. “If the unions fail then our humanity will be taken from us.”

Gleason began his UUP service as a member of the Alfred College Review Panel. He became the Alfred Chapter’s VPP in 2007 and was elected Alfred Chapter president in 2009. He works as an Instructional Support Technician for the School of Architecture, Management and Engineering Technology at SUNY Alfred.
