UUP sets up federal travel ban hotline, resources webpage

uupdate 1-31-17

UUP has established a special hotline and email address to help SUNY students, faculty and staff affected by the federal travel ban from seven predominantly Muslim nations.

The hotline number is 518-640-6633. The email address is immigrationhotline@uupmail.org. Both become effective Jan. 31.

The union has also launched a webpage with important information about the ban and links to legal and immigrant support organizations, such as the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Immigrant Law Center. CLICK HERE to access the UUP travel ban webpage.

“This discriminatory ban is an affront to everyone in the United States who believes in this country’s constitutionally guaranteed freedom of religion,” UUP President Fred Kowal said. “UUP will continue to work with other unions and like-minded partner organizations at the national level to protest this ban, which we believe to be unconstitutional and which we believe should be reversed. In the meantime, we stand ready to do all that we can to help those in the SUNY community who have been immediately affected.”

SUNY also has information on the ban on its website, at http://www.suny.edu/immigration/.
