UUP’s officers hit the road Sept. 8, in the first of a series of chapter visits to provide information and hear what’s on members’ minds.

President Fred Kowal, above, VPA Jamie Dangler, VPP Tom Tucker, and Secretary-Treasurer Jeri O’Bryan-Losee took part in two “Meet the Statewide President” forums.

More than 30 Buffalo State Chapter members took part in the hour-long sit-in sessions, where Kowal and the other officers answered questions and provided updates on the union, UUP contract negotiations with the state. Dangler, above, refers to an image of the union's website behind her as she addresses members.

"This is something new that we’re trying," said Kowal. “We want members to know that we’re here, we’re accessible and that we care about them and their work."

The officers are set to travel to the System Administration, Stony Brook and New Paltz chapters in September. In October, they will visit members at the Upstate Medical University and Cortland chapters.

After an introduction by Buffalo State Chapter President Dean Reinhart, Kowal, above, assured members that UUP is "the strongest it’s ever been." He told them that he’s grateful for their efforts on the job at SUNY Buffalo State and for UUP.

"I want to thank you for what you do," Kowal said. “You do what you do because you live it, and you care about the students and this university. The president of your union respects the dignity and devotion that you bring to your jobs and your service to the people of New York."
