uupdate 12-20-18

UUP President Fred Kowal talked about the union's initiatives for the 2019 legislative session in a pair of Dec. 20 radio interviews, using the opportunties to hammer home the need to properly fund SUNY campuses and its cash-strapped teaching hospitals.

Kowal took part in a nearly 10-minute interveiw on "The Capitol Pressroom, the daily one-hour public affairs program based at the state Capitol that airs on Syracuse public radio station WCNY(91.3-FM) and outlets across upstate New York. Above, Kowal answers a question from "The Capitol Pressroom" host Susan Arbetter.

That afternoon, Kowal was featured in a candid 30-minute interview on “The Capitol Connection” on Albany public radio station WAMC (90.3-FM). He went one-on-one with WAMC President/CEO Alan Chartock, professor emeritus at the University at Albany. Above, Kowal makes a point during his interview as Chartock listens.

In both interviews, Kowal detailed the union's support for the approval of an enhanced maintenance of effort for SUNY, and more funding for the University to aid campuses, many of which are still feeling the negative effects from massive state aid cuts to SUNY during the Great Recession.

Together, the two news programs cover Western and Central New York, and the Southern Tier, as well as Northern New York to the Canadian border and as far south as the Peekskill area.
