UUP President Bill Scheuerman delivers his State of the Union address to UUP’s Fall 2007 Delegate Assembly. Nearly 300 delegates attended the DA held in Buffalo Sept. 28-29.
Scheuerman presented an upbeat assessment of the union, saying it’s never been in better shape.
“Working together, we are the most effective public sector union in New York state,” Scheuerman proclaimed.
Highlights of the Fall DA included a contract negotiations update.
UUP Chief Negotiator and VP for Academics Fred Floss predicted UUP will wind up with a good contract to replace the former agreement that expired July 1. He appealed to the delegates to stand together in support of the union’s Negotiations Team.
Delegates acted on a number of items, including 13 resolutions on subjects ranging from UUP’s successful effort to save Upstate Medical Center as a SUNY entity, to funding for SUNY’s Office of Diversity and Educational Equity, to gender equity.
Under the DA’s theme of “Honoring Excellence,” UUP bestowed its highest honor – the Nina Mitchell Award for Distinguished Service – to members Greg Auleta of SUNY Oswego, Al Ermanovics of SUNY Buffalo and Bob Reganse of SUNY Farmingdale.
Judy Wishnia of SUNY Stony Brook was honored as the Outstanding UUP Active Retiree for 2007 for her service to UUP and SUNY after retirement.
Three SUNY students were each awarded $2,000 scholarships from the UUP College Scholarship Trust Fund.
