Rowena J. Blackman-Stroud
Rowena Blackman-Stroud is serving her seventh two-year term as treasurer of United University Professions. In this capacity, she is responsible for preparing the union's annual budget and overseeing UUP's finances. She heads the union's accounting department and also serves on UUP's Finance Committee.
Blackman-Stroud was elected to the Board of Directors of the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), UUP's statewide affiliate, in 1998. She also serves as a trustee of UUP's Benefit Trust Fund.
Her other statewide positions include serving as officer liaison to the Joint Labor/Management Committee on Professional Development and ex-officio member of the Legal Defense Committee.
On the chapter level, Blackman-Stroud is president of the Brooklyn Health Science Center chapter, where she represents physicians, basic scientists, nurses, social workers, administrators, librarians, laboratory technicians and other health care workers. She previously worked at the campus as a TH associate director of nuclear medicine.
n 2004, Blackman-Stroud became the first UUP member elected to serve on the Executive Council of the New York State AFL-CIO.
Blackman-Stroud received her bachelor of science degree in biochemistry from the University of the West Indies and her master of science degree in organic chemistry from New York University.
