This time, the organizers of the Women’s March are set to send more than just a message about women’s rights and resistance to President Donald Trump and the Republican majority in Congress.
And UUP is encouraging its members to be part of it all.
The second-annual Women’s March, set for Jan. 21 in Las Vegas with "sister marches" scheduled across New York the country and the globe, is focused on creating positive change in the 2018 U.S. midterm elections. Their agenda has a hashtag: #PowerToThePolls.
According to the official Women's March website, the march will launch a "national voter registration and mobilization tour" that will target election swing states, like Nevada. The focus will be on registering new voters and advocating for policies and candidates that reflect our values and collaborate with our partners to elect more women and progressives candidates to office."
This year, there is a Jan. 20 march set for New York City, and more than a dozen marches in cities and towns across New York state, most of them slated for Jan. 20.
Dozens of UUP members from chapters across the state were among the hundreds of thousands of protesters at the Women's March on Washington D.C., held the day before Trump's inaguration in January 2017. UUPers also joined throngs of sign-waving protesters, many of them wearing knitted pink "pussy hats," at women's marches in New York City and other parts of the state.
