Puerto Rico needs your help.

The island has been rocked by more than 1,200 earthquakes since Dec. 28, including a 6.4 magnitude quake on Jan. 7 and a 5.9 magnitude aftershock four days later. A 5.2 magnitude temblor shook Puerto Rico Jan. 15, causing even more damage.

Relief aid and assistance is desperately needed to help the island’s residents; the Associated Press reports that more than 5,000 residents have been left homeless by the earthquakes. In some villages and towns, people are sleeping outdoors—under tarps, in tents and open-air structures like baseball stadiums—until their homes are deemed structurally safe.

There’s also a dire need for infant formula, due to water contamination and a lack of refrigeration.

You can help by:

      • Donating to the AFT Disaster Relief Fund. If you prefer, you can also write a check; make it out to AFT Disaster Relief Fund and mail it to AFT Disaster Relief Fund, 555 New Jersey Avenue, NW; Washington D.C., 20001. Please write PR Earthquake Relief on the check’s memo line.
      • Contributing to the NYSUT Disaster Relief Fund. You can also mail in a check, made payable to NYSUT Disaster Relief Fund, Attn: Disaster Relief, 800 Troy-Schenectady Road, Latham, NY 12110. Please write Puerto Rico on the check's memo line.

Alimentacion Segura Infantil is a Puerto Rico-based organization that helps families with feeding infants and young children during emergencies. ASI has set up a fund to help buy infant formula for families in need. CLICK HERE to donate to ASI.
