UUP accepting applications for 2025 Steve Street Award scholarship

SUNY undergraduate students are invited to apply for the 2025 Steve Street Award, an annual scholarship offered by United University Professions, the union that represents academic and professional employees at the State University of New York.

The scholarship application deadline for the Steve Street Award is May 1. Applications are on UUP’s website, at https://uupinfo.org/awards/.

The Steve Street Award is a one-time $500 scholarship open to undergraduate students enrolled at a SUNY campus. To qualify for the award, students—either a single student or a group of students—must have created a paper or documented any project related to social justice issues or topics. This scholarship is available to full-time and part-time students.

The award is named for Street, a beloved UUP contingent faculty member who taught at SUNY Brockport and SUNY Buffalo State University; he died of cancer in 2012. He was the 2010 recipient of UUP’s Fayez Samuel Award for Courageous Service by Part-Time Academic and Professional Faculty.

The scholarship is funded by contributions from UUP members and their families.

For more information, contact UUP’s Administrative Office at (800) 342-4206.

UUP is the nation's largest higher education union, with more than 42,000 academic and professional faculty and retirees. UUP members work at 29 New York state-operated campuses, including SUNY’s public teaching hospitals and health science centers in Brooklyn, Long Island and Syracuse. It is an affiliate of NYSUT, the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association, and the AFL-CIO.
