Admissions

As a family, admissions positions are responsible for the student recruitment and admissions program at a campus. The office is involved with every aspect of this endeavor, from highest level of policy development to working with students with respect to individual admissions.

Director of Admissions and (...): (SL-6)

Directs the campus admissions program. Has additional responsibilities, such as student records, financial aid, enrollment planning, or graduate admissions. Recommends the hiring and supervises the training of the professional and classified staff. As a person most aware of external factors, has a primary responsibility in providing input to the decision-making process to the President, academic staff, and faculty committees concerned with the development of admissions policy and the admissions process generally; maintains close liaison with academic staff in order to keep the admissions office apprised of current course offerings, applicability of transfer credit, and for formulation of campus policy relating to advanced placement credit, proficiency examination scores, etc.; also maintains liaison with high school and regional community college guidance counselors directly and through professional associations; schedules off-campus visits by admissions staff who explain the college program, entrance requirements, and financial requirements and provide assistance to guidance personnel, prospective students, and others; supervises admissions advising, applications processing, and records; is directly involved in preparing and distributing the college catalogue and other admissions literature; provides for review of each application for admission in terms of admission criteria, with attention to program balance and housing capacity; directs the giving of notice as to acceptance or non-acceptance and maintains waiting lists as appropriate; works closely with the student financial aid office and other student affairs staff to assure complete service to newly admitted students; in cooperation with institutional research and computer personnel, prepares profiles of applicants to inform guidance counselors of scores of applicants accepted and rejected; continually investigates and develops ways of improving the admissions process. Supervises and recommends policy in other areas of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master's degree. Significant experience in admissions, enrollment planning and other areas supervised, as appropriate, is required. Managerial and supervisory experience is also required.

Associate Director of Admissions: (SL-5)

Serves as second in charge to a Director of Admissions and (…). Supervises professional staff. Assists in all functions of the admissions office. Acts for the Director as required. May have primary responsibility for a special area, such as enrollment planning, financial aid, records, or graduate admission.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s degree. Significant experience in admissions and/or other special area of responsibility is required as is experience as a manager or supervisor.

Senior Admissions Advisor: (SL-4)

Serves on the professional staff of a campus admissions staff. Can perform all of the duties of Admissions Advisor. Has primary responsibility for a specific admissions area, such as, transfer students, graduate students, international students, publications, or computer systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s degree. Significant admissions experience in the area of primary responsibility is required.

Admissions Advisor: (SL-3)

Serves on the professional staff of a campus admissions office. Represents the campus to prospective students on campus, at secondary schools and community colleges, and at off-campus meetings. Is familiar with the admissions criteria for all the campus student categories. Can independently review high school and community college records and make admissions decisions. Is capable of providing detailed information on the campus curriculum, academic programs, residence hall programs and financial assistance. May participate in research and evaluation related to enrollment planning, demographic analysis and retention. Attends professional meetings and conferences as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s degree. General experience in admissions or related areas is required.

Admissions Assistant: (SL-2)

Serves on the professional staff of a campus admissions office. Performs work similar to an Admissions Advisor but under closer supervision, because of inexperience and a lack of familiarity with the total campus programs. Probably does not make independent admissions decisions.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree. It is desirable that a candidate have a Master’s degree in progress, with general experience in admissions or a related area.

Admissions Intern: (SL-1)

Serves on the professional staff of a campus admissions office. Performs professional tasks under the direct supervision of a higher level staff member. Incumbent is learning the professional tasks required and becoming familiar with the campus programs and environment. This is the entry level title in the series. Appointees may serve a maximum of two (2) years in this capacity.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree.
