FINANCIAL AID

As a family, the financial aid titles administer the student financial aid program on a campus. Incumbents interpret and advise students on federal and State University financial aid programs, assisting students and parents in determining need and eligibility for various student aid funds.

Director of Financial Aid: (SL-5)

Directs the student financial aid programs on campus. Is responsible for the interpretation of regulations on complex federal and state university financial aid programs; collects personal and financial data from students and parents to determine need and eligibility for various institutional, state and federal student aid funds; is responsible for the fiscal management of the various student aid programs to insure fulfillment of the intent and purpose of each of the different programs; maintains liaison with parents, secondary schools, scholarship foundations, other institutions, special programs, including the educational opportunity program, and state and federal agencies; advises students on financial matters generally; certifies the program of part-time student employment, including the federally sponsored Work-Study Program; serves as a member of committees concerned with all of the above. Monitors the academic progress of students receiving aid.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s degree. Significant experience in financial aid and managerial and supervisory experience.

Assistant Director Financial Aid: (SL-4)

Serves as second in charge to a Director of Financial Aid. Assists in all functions of the Financial aid office. Acts for the Director as required.

Senior Financial Aid Advisor: (SL-4)

Serves on the campus financial aid staff. Can perform all of the duties of a Financial Aid Advisor. Has primary responsibility for a specific financial aid area, such as, work-study, federal or state grants, loans or computer systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s degree. Significant financial aid experience in the area of primary responsibility.

Financial Aid Advisor: (SL-3)

Serves on the campus financial aid staff. Meets with students and parents to determine financial needs and recommends assistance and programs within established laws and guidelines. Reviews applications, certifies eligibility, authorizes awards and vouchering for payment, manages budget control. Advises students and parents in the management of the student’s personnel finances, alternate sources of assistance and financing. Conducts reviews and evaluations of financial aid applicants for packaging. Conducts directed research and evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s Degree and experience in financial aid.

Financial Aid Assistant: (SL-2)

Serves on the campus financial aid staff. Performs work similar to a Financial Aid Advisor, but under closer supervision because of inexperience and a lack of familiarity with guidelines and administrative requirements, for the allocation of all aid programs. Probably does not make independent decisions on aid awards.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree preferably with a Master’s degree in progress and related financial aid experience.

Financial Aid Intern: (SL-1)

Serves on the campus financial aid professional staff. Performs tasks under the direct supervision of an Associate/Assistant Director or a Senior Financial Aid Advisor. Incumbent is learning the professional tasks required and becoming familiar with the available aid programs. This is the entry-level title in the series. Appointees may serve a maximum of two (2) years in this capacity.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree.
