Forest Propertv Manager I: (SL-4)

 

At the College of Environmental Science and Forestry, incumbent works under the general supervision of the Director of Forest Properties for the management and operation of one or more of the College’s forest properties located at its several branch campuses throughout the State; initiates, develops, and executes management plans, programs, and projects designed to enhance the value of the forest and related resources of those properties as integral components of the College’s overall instructional, research, and public service endeavors. Does related work as required under general supervision of Director; Collaborates closely with College faculty, professional staff, and students in coordinating College-wide program objectives with the programs, facilities, personnel, and resources of the forest properties; responsible for the development, effective utilization, enhancement, and protection of all the property’s natural resources, as well as for the economical production, processing, and sale of forest resources products; directly supervises support personnel associated with the management and operation of the forest property; supervises and otherwise controls and monitors all activities of the lay public on the property; in concert with Director acts as liaison between the forest property, the College’s Administration, and the various Federal. state, and local agencies, as well as the lay public which impact on the instructional, research, and public service enterprises of the property, and on its management and operational programs and objectives.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in forestry and related resources management, plus a minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in natural resource administration and management or, alternatively, a Master’s degree with a minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of similar relevant experience.

Forest Property Manager II: (SL-3)

Entry level forest management position at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry working under the direct supervision of the Director of Forest Properties Manages and operates one or more of the smaller, less complex forest properties with a light to moderate level of instruction, research and public service activity; initiates, develops, and executes management plans, programs, and projects designed to enhance the value of the forest and related resources of those properties as integral components of the College’s overall instructional, research, and public service endeavors; collaborates closely with College faculty, professional staff, and students in coordinating College-wide program objectives with the programs, facilities, personnel, and resources of the forest properties; responsible for the development, utilization, enhancement, and protection of all the property’s natural resources, as well as for the economical production, processing, and sale of forest resources products; directly supervises support personnel associated with the management and operation of the forest property; supervises and otherwise controls and monitors all activities of the lay public on the property; in concert with Director acts as liaison between the forest property, the College’s Administration, and the various Federal, state, and local agencies, as well as the lay public which impact on the instructional, research, and public service enterprises of the property, and on its management and operational programs and objectives.

Forest Property Technician I: (SL—2)

At the College of Environmental Science and Forestry, this position works under the general supervision of the Forest Property Manager at one of the larger properties; administers timber harvesting programs and timber stand improvement work in support of instruction and research programs; conducts Forest Management Planning, surveying, mapping, maintaining records, writing reports as appropriate; assists in instruction and public service programs through development of educational displays and presentations on forest ecosystem management techniques; assists researchers in establishing site work; participates in marketing forest products such as fire wood and timber; supervises technical staff, students and crew; may serve as second in charge to the Manager.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

AAS in Forest Technology and two (2) years related experience.

Forest Property Technician II: (SL-1)

This entry level technical position works under the direct supervision of either the Forest Property Manager I at a smaller property or the Forest Property Technician II at a larger property; provides technical support for timber harvesting, timber improvement, forest management planning, forest product marketing in keeping with the instruction research and public service programs on the property; gathers data and assists in compiling records and reports.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

AAS in Forest Technology.
