SHIP’S OFFICER (MARITIME) (SL-4)

Ship’s Officer (Supply):

The Ship’s Supply Officer found exclusively at the Maritime Academy is responsible for budget control, procurement activities, inventory control, food and miscellaneous hotel services, as well as general administrative duties as assigned.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to: managing and administering all matters related to the provision of services from vendors within the established budget guidelines; insuring that procurements are timely and that all necessary paperwork is processed accurately; establishing and maintaining inventory control and accountability of goods and services; responsibility for the delivery and quality of contracted food service and hotel operations used on the ship; tracking attendance records of subordinates; serving as the Ship’s Paymaster during the Summer Sea Term and controlling the cash advance account; involved in the preparation of budgets in coordination with other shipboard department heads; working with the Federal Maritime Administration in the processing of federal procurements/services; serving as a liaison to various agencies and businesses.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree with significant experience in supply/procurement functions on board ships (military or commercial). Familiarity with hotel and food operations is desirable. Military background is preferred.

Ship’s Officer (Engineer/Deck):

The Ship’s Engineer or Deck Officer found exclusively at the Maritime Academy is responsible for the maintenance of the Engineer/Deck Department’s space and equipment.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to: assisting the Chief Engineer in the supervision, operation, maintenance and repair of all machinery, equipment, piping, electrical systems, controls in the engine room, and other areas supervised by the ship’s Engineering and Deck Departments; maintaining records of machinery repaired and inventory of consumed stores, liquid supplies, and spare parts; preparing machinery for annual inspection by the United States Coast Guard and American Bureau of Shipping; planing the cadet maintenance and repair work schedules; serving as a liaison to various agencies and businesses.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree with significant experience in appropriate areas. Military background is desirable.
