T.H. PHYSICAL THERAPY

As a job family, Physical Therapists work closely with other members of the health care tem, patients and their families, to plan the evaluation and treatment of the patients needs and to develop and administer programs aimed at strengthening the body.

T.H. Director of Physical Therapy: (SL-6)

Responsible for overall direction of the hospital physical Therapy department, the development of program plans and departmental growth. Responsible for all aspects of patient care and management in compliance with departmental policies and procedures and the quality assurance program; responsible for the department’s educational program and the orientation and training of all medical staff and students as needed in regard to physical therapy; represents the department internally and externally; interacts with medical staff regarding patient needs. Responsible for the development of departmental policies and procedures, record keeping and inventory control programs. Prepares budgets and is responsible for program development and planning. Plans, organizes and provides administrative direction to all Physical Therapy staff and may supervise and direct other health professionals in related areas.

Preferred Qualifications:

B.S. degree in Physical Therapy, NYS license. At least six (6) years experience to include two (2) years in a supervisory or administrative capacity. M.S. degree in Physical Therapy with at least five (5) years experience to include two (2) years in a supervisory or administrative capacity preferred. (Appendix A).

T.H. Associate Director of Physical Therapy: (SL-4)

Assists the Director in the day-to-day management planning and organization of the hospital Physical Therapy Department. Supervises and directs all Physical Therapy staff and volunteers; assists the director by coordinating and supervising the inpatient and/or outpatient care programs; orients new staff; assists with performance evaluations. May serve as coordinator of departmental educational programs and rounds. Organizes and participates in teaching programs, acts as a liaison with physicians and other medical staff; participates in hospital committees; schedules and assigns patients; acts for the director in his/her absence. Works independently in conjunction with Director’s goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

BS in Physical Therapy, NYS license, four (4) years of experience to include one (1) year in an administrative/supervisory capacity. M.S. in Physical Therapy, NYS licensure and four (4) years experience to include one (1) year in an administrative/supervisory capacity preferred.

T.H. Physical Therapist I: (SL-4)

Responsible for the daily operation in a specialty area; administers all aspects of patients’ care and management in compliance with departmental policies and procedures; assists in administering the quality control program and may serve as the department’s inservice training coordinator of clinical education and volunteer programs. Coordinates and participates in the orientation and training of all staff and students as needed in regards to physical therapy; interacts with medical staff regarding patients needs; updates and recommends development of revised/new policies and procedures; organizes and coordinates activity in specialty treatment areas. Supervision is minimal; supervises subordinates.

Preferred Qualifications:

BS in Physical Therapy, NYS license and four (4) years experience to include two (2) years in specialty.

T.H. Physical Therapist II: (SL-3)

Administers all aspects of patient’s care and management in compliance with departmental policies and procedures; assists in the coordination and scheduling of treatment progression and testing procedures, records loan and retrieval of equipment; participates in the department inservice training program. May serve as clinical instructor for senior level students. Assists supervisor in maintaining updated policies and procedures; participates in quality assurance and peer review; assists with the orientation of new staff members, and participates in teaching programs. Functions under general supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

BS in Physical Therapy, NYS license and two (2) to four (4) years experience.

T.H. Physical Therapist III: (SL-2)

 

Evaluated patients through various testing measures, plans treatment and executes it keeping everyone abreast of progress through written and verbal reports. Schedules patients, keeps attendance and treatment records. May serve as clinical instructor for junior level students. Provides instruction to the patient, family members and other health care personnel involved in the care of the patient; provides supervision to Physical Therapist Assistants, aides and volunteers; consults with physician regarding patient care; participates in departmental inservices and other departmental and interdepartmental activities. Functions under general supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

BS in Physical Therapy, NYS license (or eligible, but must pass in one (1) year) with zero (0) to two (2) years experience.

T.H. Physical Therapy Assistant I: (SL-2)

Provides bedside treatments and coordinates equipment and supplies. Directs complex bedside treatments such as debridement, dressing changes and set-up of patients on isokenetic equipment, etc Provides instruction to patients and families and other health care providers in the performance of selected treatment procedures, and may participate in the teaching of junior Physical Therapy and physical Therapy Assistant students; participates in departmental and interdepartmental activities as required. Works under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree, NYS licensure, two (2) years clinical experience.

T.H. Physical Therapy Assistant II: (SL-1)

Implements treatments in accordance with predetermined indicated procedures. Provides instructions to patients and families and may participate in the teaching of Physical Therapy Assistant students. Works under the supervision of a T.H. Physical Therapist or T.H. Physical Therapist Assistant II.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree, NYS licensure, no minimum experience.
