Statement from UUP President Frederick E. Kowal on the appointment of interim SUNY Chancellor Dr. Deborah Stanley

ALBANY, NY – United University Professions President Frederick E. Kowal today issued the following statement in response to the appointment of Dr. Deborah Stanley as interim SUNY chancellor.

“We fully support the SUNY Board of Trustees' decision to appoint Dr. Deborah Stanley as interim chancellor of SUNY and we are hopeful that she will effectively lead SUNY through this transition period. Dr. Stanley is an immensely accomplished leader who has served the students, faculty and staff of SUNY Oswego for nearly 25 years.

“Today, we also renew our call for a nationwide search for a permanent SUNY chancellor, with a high priority on candidates of diversity and an open, communicative process. There is critical work that will need to be done in the coming year. We look forward to working with the Board of Trustees, Dr. Stanley, and the other unions representing SUNY employees to deliver resources and support for our members, our students, and our patients across New York."
