What if someone told you that you could be in a parade down New York City’s famed Fifth Avenue and show your union pride at the same time?
Well, you can. And it’s all happening this weekend.
UUP will take part in the New York City Labor Day parade on Saturday, Sept. 7 and all UUP members are welcome and encouraged to join the march. The parade will start 44th Street and Fifth Avenue and proceed up Fifth Avenue to 64th Street.

UUP will gather at 11 a.m. at E. 46th St. between Fifth and Madison avenues and will step off at 12:30 p.m. Although the parade starts at 10 a.m., the size of the event means that some groups will march later. The best entrance to the UUP meeting area is Madison Avenue.
Traditionally held the Saturday after Labor Day, the New York City Labor Day parade is one of the largest—if not the largest—Labor Day marches in the country. Workers from unions in New York City and across the state participate in the annual event, complete with festive floats, flags, huge trucks, live music and much more.
What to wear, where to gather
This year, UUP will march to publicize its ongoing fight to keep SUNY Downstate University Hospital open and prevent SUNY from shutting down Brooklyn’s sole public teaching hospital. Read more about UUP’s fight for Downstate HERE.
If you’re planning to take Amtrak to New York City to march in the parade, UUP will reimburse you the cost of your train ticket. Group train tickets are also available for members traveling from Long Island, the Hudson Valley or Albany.
