Tom Hoey works as a Network Engineer at the University at Albany. He became UUP's statewide Membership Development Officer in February 2016 after winning a special election for the post.

Hoey has served UUP in many leadership roles over the past 24 years. In 2014, he was elected to his second term on the statewide Executive Board. He currently serves on the Negotiations Committee.

He has been a NYSUT and AFT delegate; he has attended several AFT Higher Ed conferences and the most recent AFL-CIO convention.

His statewide roles include serving as chair/co-chair of the statewide Solidarity Committee; NYS/UUP Joint Labor-Management Professional Development Committee; and the A-32 Committee on Professional Titles.

On the chapter level, Hoey was a member of the Albany Chapter’s A-28 Committee’s and later became a member of the chapter's Executive Board. He was elected as chapter Vice President for Professionals in 2012 and still serves in that role. Hoey was special assistant to the UUP president for the 2000 SEFA campaign.

Hoey, of Albany, earned an Associate of Science degree from Kingsborough Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree from Regents College. He is a graduate of the NYSUT Leadership Institute and “Jobs with Justice.”
