T.h. Diagnostic Radiography

The overall responsibilities of the positions in the Radiography job family collectively are to provide radiographic support services to medical staff in the areas of Diagnostics, Ultrasound. CT Scanning, Special Procedures, Nuclear Medicine and Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

 

T.H. Director of Medical Radiography: (SL-6)

Overall responsibility for managing and planning for the efficient delivery of radiographic support services to support the hospital’s delivery of health care which requires special knowledge of the services provided in each functional area. Responsibilities include overseeing the preparation of all service and supply contracts, as well as general supply inventory maintenance; oversees coordinating with the Radiation Physics Laboratory on matters of safety; responsible for maintaining collaborative communications between administration and clinical areas; oversees records maintenance, training programs, and instructional support for medical staff. Oversees staff maintenance, preparation and monitoring of department quality assurance programs, formulation of departmental policies and procedures, departmental interhospital committee representation, planning and development, special projects, surveys, etc., and the maintenance of Radiography patient service areas. The incumbent works independently in maintaining policies and procedures, establishing, monitoring and evaluating goals, and supervises subordinate supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications:

BS, NYS License and AART Registry, and six (6) years experience to include three (3) years of management and supervisory experience. (Appendix A)

T.H. Medical Radiography Associate Director: (SL-5)

Serves as the chief assistant to the Radiography Director in discharging the responsibilities of that office which requires general knowledge of all sub—unit specialties within the department. Responsible for the daily operations of the department which includes the coordination of activities between all subservice areas; preparation of service and supply contracts; coordinating with the Radiation Physics Laboratory on matters of safety; maintaining proper collaborative communication between administration and radiography related clinical areas; records, supplies and contract development and maintenance; coordinates and participates in student training and instruction to medical staff; responsible for general staff maintenance and development; updates, reviews, implements and monitors policies and procedures including quality assurance; coordinates and participates in special projects and ensures that patient service areas are orderly and non-contaminated. Incumbents work independently with consultative direction and provide direct supervision to subordinate supervisors and students.

Preferred Qualifications:

BS, NYC License and AART Registry and a minimum of five (5) years of experience, to include two (2) to three (3) years in administration/management. (AAS and experience may be substituted for BS).

T.H. Medical Radiography Assistant Director: (SL -4)

Supervises and performs those duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgement and initiative in the utilization of diagnostic equipment. Supervises technical diagnostic services of an assigned section such as, special procedures, ultrasound, cat scan and nuclear medicine. Maintains the standards of quality in the operations of the department. Recommends area assignments of personnel to coordinate activities within the department, with other departmental activities and services of the hospital. Initiates employee evaluation reports. Recommends promotion, discipline and other administrative action. Reports problems relating to staffing, morale, work methods, procedures, transfer and recommends action in all personnel matters for those personnel assigned to him/her. Will assist in the selection and preparation of specification for equipment and supplies. Will be required to teach Medical Residents, Radiologic Technologists and appropriate hospital personnel, establishes procedures and operation of each equipment in accordance with the guidelines and teaching objectives of the department. May be assigned on a rotation basis to perform mobile diagnostic examinations to a satellite diagnostic suite and perform examinations without a physician’s supervision. Accumulates statistical information to determine work patterns, patient flow, budgetary information and fiscal requirements. Assists in the selection and preparation of specifications for equipment and supplies. Will interact with service representatives to maintain the equipment in proper working order. Participates in and conducts research in required specialty. Responsible for conveying initial impressions of care results to the director. And is responsible for the procurement, storage and routing of supplies and for room preparation. Recommends the procurement and necessity for maintenance of equipment when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

AAS Degree or certificate in appropriate specialization by American Registry of Radiology Technologist. NYS license and five (5) years related experience to include two (2) years in an advisory administrative capacity.

T.H. Medical Radiographer I: (SL-3)

Incumbents of this position possess special knowledge of the sub-specialty of Diagnostic or Special Procedures (may include MRI), Ultrasound or Nuclear Medicine. They may function as the lead technician, chief technician or supervisor of a sub-unit(s) due to their expertise, knowledge and experience. They must possess a thorough knowledge of the department’s policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance. This includes quality control and monitoring adherence to safety standards. They are responsible for daily staff scheduling and maintenance; providing ongoing training and instruction to department staff, students and all hospital medical staff; problem-solving regarding equipment usage and availability; the development and introduction of new techniques and procedures, their implementation, monitoring and enhancement. Incumbents work generally independently with consultative direction from the Director of designee, and may direct/supervise subordinate technologists.

Supervision:

Positions at this level work under close supervision receiving assignments, seeking assistance as needed and consulting with supervisors on their completed work product.

Preferred Qualifications:

MS. NYS and PART Registry or other certification and specialty and three (3) to five (5) years experience in specialty (MS and experience may be substituted for advanced degree).

T.H. Medical Radiographer II (SL-2)

Must have in-depth knowledge of all diagnostic general radiographic procedures and general knowledge of special procedures work such as CT Scanning, Neuro and Vascular Angiography, Myelography, Venography, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine and may include MRI. They must be able to use independent judgement under the most adverse conditions, and be able to produce highest quality radiographs using quick work techniques; understand and be able to work all special procedures equipment including catheter and guide techniques, injections, monitors, etc.; understand the limits of equipment and its care; demonstrate good knowledge of all darkroom techniques and emergency procedures; are responsible for keeping updated on all department quality control and operational guidelines relating to the maintenance on a non-contaminated work environment, be knowledgeable of all waste disposal guidelines, quality control procedures, records maintenance and inventory control. Incumbents assist in the department’s continuing education program and after successful completion of orientation, participate in the training of graduate students and medical staff. Incumbents work under general direction, planning own work and may supervise subordinate staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

AAS, NYS and AART Registry or other registration depending on specialty, and two (2) to four (4) plus years of experience or zero (0) to three (3) years experience in specialty.

T.H. Medical Radiographer III: (SL—1)

Incumbents who enter this job family in the sub-specialty of Diagnostician must have knowledge of all general radiographic procedures, including some special procedures techniques, such as myelograms, venograms, O.R. work, Cysto work and portable work. They are required to apply this knowledge by being able to use independent judgement or action under most adverse conditions and in emergencies, perform quality patient care using quick work techniques, apply radiation in proper dosages with appropriate protective devices, performing darkroom work and alternative X-omat processing. All technologists in this title must know the limitations of equipment to properly care for same, understand and adhere to departmental operational policies, procedures, and quality control standards which includes maintaining contamination—free patient service areas, the proper disposal of contaminated waste, proper safety precautions to be adhered to in servicing patients, maintain appropriate records and supply inventories. Following successful completion of training, certification in the sub-specialty, technologists provide instruction to students and physicians when necessary, and participates in sub-specialty studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

AAS, NYS License and AART or certification in sub-specialty, and zero (0) to two (2)years experience.

T.H. Associate Director of Radiation Therapy: (SL-5)

The Associate Director is responsible for the overall operation of the treatment area, which now include supervision of all of the radiation therapy technology staff, supervision of all radiation therapy students, scheduling of daily work assignments for students and technologists. The responsibilities also include the preparation and submission of all daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports to the chairman of the department. The statistics contained in this report may significantly impact upon patient care, and significant hospital revenues. Orders major patient treatment related equipment and materials. Responsible for informal meetings with these staff members and formal evaluations of their performance. Attends national meetings to assure continued maintenance of the overall current state of the art for radiation therapy technology. May be responsible for recruitment of radiation therapy technology staff, coordination of treatment plan with Dosimetrists, coordination of machine repair with service engineer; continuing education inservice and educational programs for research and technical students. Ensures adherence to established safety standards.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

AAS Degree or AMA approved two (2) year certificate program for Radiation Therapy Technology. RRT, New York State License, minimum of seven (7) years with minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory/administrative capacity. BS preferred.

T.H. Assistant Director of Radiation Therapy: (SL-4)

Directs and monitors the daily activities of the radiation therapy technologists in the department; adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements; provides and assists in the on-the-job training for technologists, students and new residents in radiation therapy techniques; collaborates with medical staff regarding patient treatment; supervises Senior Technologists with inservice training program; functions in absence of Associate Director; designs devices for treatment; supervises the maintenance and insures the proper operation of radiotherapy machines; supervises the organization, planning and scheduling of patient treatments; purchase of medical supplies and equipment in conjunction with or in the absence of the Director; oversees the maintenance of accurate treatment records; observes and reports adverse treatment reactions; preparation and submission of statistics. Participates in departmental educational programs.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

AAS Degree or AMA approved two (2) year certificate program for Radiation Therapy Technology, New York State license, RRT and five (5) years related experience to include at least two (2) years in a supervisory/administrative capacity.

Coordinates patient appointments; interprets prescription and delivers radiation to patient in accordance with physician’s instructions; prepares and operates all types of radiotherapy equipment, (i.e. Co-60, Linear accelerator, simulator, etc); takes radiographic film to confirm treatment volume; performs pre-treatment duties by operating the simulator, for localization of tumor size and position, taking the contour and collecting all physical factors for the treatment plan, taking photographs of patients for portal verification; assuming responsibility for providing all safety measures for patients, recognizing all types of radiation reactions and for providing proper care and instructions to patients; assume responsibility for compliance to departmental and regulatory policies and procedures; recording and maintaining treatment records and port films; participates the departments inservice and educational programs, and coordinates departmental and in-patient activities to provide patient care.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

AAS or AMA certified program, RRT license with three (3) to five (5) years related experience, and New York State license.

Incumbents work under general supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

AAS, RRT eligible or AMA certified, and New York State license or eligible in radiation therapy. Zero (0) to three (3) years related experience.
